Programme of Engagement

We committed to a Citizen Assembly as a way of offering balanced recommendations grounded in the considered views of the public. With uncertainty over the extent to which social-distancing rules will be in place in the autumn, we are reviewing whether a robust and effective Citizen Assembly will be possible.

Either way, we will be engaging with citizens, including young people, right across the country to seek their views and ensure their voices are heard in the debate over what role they think government should play in intervening on dietary choices linked to poor health.

We will build on the Call for Evidence and other analysis to come up with a full suite of recommendations. As well as direct engagement with citizens, we will work in partnership with industry and civil society organisations to build a strong constituency of support to make the recommendations easier for government to act upon.
